Data security

This English version is provided for convenience. In the event of any discrepancy, the French version (Sécurité des données) prevails.

At Five Angels, data security is not an option - it is a non-negotiable requirement. A personal safety app that did not protect its users' data would be a contradiction in terms. Here is how we handle your data.

Data encryption

All sensitive data transmitted by Five Angels - alert videos, audio streams, GPS positions, profile data - travels over encrypted channels. From the protected person's phone to our servers, and from our servers to the screens of their guardian angels, no data crosses the network in clear text.

We use industry-standard protocols: TLS 1.2 and 1.3 for transmissions, and AES-256 for encryption at rest of the video and audio recordings stored on our servers.

Videos and recordings

The video sequences captured during an alert are transmitted over an encrypted channel as soon as they are captured, then stored encrypted (AES-256) on an infrastructure located in France, isolated from the public web. They are made available to the designated guardian angels only for the duration of the alert, through a temporary signed access link that expires automatically.

GPS position

Location data is transmitted in real time over an encrypted channel and is accessible only to your guardian angels during the alert. It is never used for commercial or advertising purposes, nor passed on to third parties.

Why no "end-to-end encryption"?

For the sake of transparency: we do not claim end-to-end encryption, and this is a deliberate choice. Such encryption would make the content unreadable by our servers - and therefore impossible to analyse to detect a distress situation in Preventive mode, or to hand over to the authorities on a judicial request. We have chosen detection and the chain of evidence, with strictly limited and logged internal access as the counterpart (see "Data access" below).

Hosted in France

All Five Angels user data is hosted in France, in certified data centres located on French territory. We have made the deliberate choice not to move our data to American clouds or outside the European Union.

This French hosting guarantees that your data is subject to French and European law - in particular the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) - and not to extraterritorial legislation such as the US Cloud Act.

Our digital sovereignty commitments

• ·Your video and audio recordings, the analyses carried out by our artificial intelligence and your GPS positions are stored exclusively on servers located in France and never leave the European Union
• ·None of this data is hosted on an American or non-European cloud
• ·Infrastructure providers subject to European law
• ·The only third-party services outside the European Union that we use are the essential ones for routing notifications and converting a position into a readable address: they are detailed in our privacy policy
• ·Safety data handled with the highest level of protection

GDPR compliance

Five Angels is designed to comply with the GDPR from the outset (Privacy by Design). In concrete terms, this means:

• ·You can access all of your personal data at any time
• ·You can request the complete deletion of your account and your data
• ·We collect only the data strictly necessary for the operation of the service
• ·No data is passed on or sold to third parties for commercial purposes
• ·Your video and audio data is never used to train third-party AI models

Retention periods

Video and audio recordings are kept only for as long as strictly necessary, then permanently deleted, unless a judicial authority requests that they be preserved. The periods applicable to each category of data (alert recordings, preventive mode recordings, account data, technical logs) are set out in our privacy policy, which is the sole reference.

Data access

Five Angels data is accessible only to a very small number of people:

• ·Your guardian angels, only during an active alert and only for the data you have chosen to share
• ·The Five Angels technical team, strictly within the scope of maintenance operations, with logging of every access
• ·The judicial authorities, only upon a formal judicial request and strictly within the legal framework

No commercial, advertising or analytical access is granted to third parties.

Reporting vulnerabilities

We take security very seriously. If you identify a vulnerability in our systems, we encourage you to report it responsibly to security@five-angels.com. We undertake to handle every report seriously and promptly.
